Hempstore at Waltham Place

In collaboration with Waltham Place Farm and The Bartlett UCL we are building a small timber and cast hempcrete building in the corner of the kitchen garden.

The building will provide useful garden storage space and a small room for biodynamic farm seed preparations, as well as important technical feedback on the timber-and-hempcrete construction system proposed for the ‘New Model Barn’ (the much larger project to follow which has just receiving planning consent).  We are looking at buildability, airtightness performance and hygrothermal performance.

The self-build relies on hard work by farmworkers and tens of community volunteers – including a rare opportunity for the office to get their hands dirty.
