Hempstore - ‘The striking of the last formwork’

The farmworkers who have been working hard over the past few weeks at Waltham Place Farm were really pleased to take down the last of the formwork from the roof - revealing a row of swollen bellies :)  

The increased volume of hempcrete aims to increase both U-value and thermal mass, as well as express the nature of the material and the process of casting it.

The design team have used this project to experiment with different forms of casting and different strengths of hemp mix - hessian and plywood offer different characters, and these will be explored further in the walls and roof of New Model Barn.
