Tovara : Maidenhead

Tovara is a detached villa on a semi-rural site on the outskirts of Maidenhead. It lies within the Green Belt, the house replaced an existing property which was demolished. Our client’s brief was for a contemporary, bespoke house which took maximum advantage of the site. The topography of the site is very flat. The house has been designed as an object with the landscape with deep overhanging eaves emphasizing the horizontality of the setting. These eaves step up and down responding to the spaces within and stretch out into the landscape providing a sheltering canopy for the precise planes of white brickwork below. A band of brickwork directly below the eaves is recessed to emphasize the floating nature of the roof and again to re-assert the horizontal emphasis.
