Woodland construction kit

The brief required several additional buildings to a Listed 1960’s country house in the Green Belt near Oxford, set in Victorian Pleasure Gardens and 10 hectares of woodland.  The striking design by Hal Moggridge, with an unusual concrete frame by Arup, replaced a C19th mansion built by the renowned archaeologist Arthur Evans.

Following a positive pre-app response from the Council, CSK Architects are designing an extension and a courtyard of outbuildings which will use prefabricated building components made with timber harvested and processed from the forest on site.  Proposals are currently being developed in collaboration with Xylotek Ltd.
